Creative choices for assessment

My creative work is a project which started in OCA terms at the end of my level 2 study. It has its roots in the illness and death of my daughter, Rebecca, which happened more than 8 years ago. I have used this project to better understand my experience of the lasting trauma resulting from grief. When my daughter was dying, I reached for my camera in an attempt to save a sense of what I was close to losing, as an aid to memory, to try and make sense of loss, as a tool for distraction and as a way to block out pain. Before this year’s study, I have explored the medical scan out of context of the medical realm, I have worked using the archive my daughter left behind on her mobile phone, I have produced a photobook showing my own own images I took through her illness. Last year I started to explore the liminal gateway between life and death. My submission for 3.2 represents a fragment from a much larger body of work.

In 3.2 Context & Audience, I have continued to explore the liminal space along with memory related to loss and question the role of the photograph in this space. I have also worked collaboratively with others and used their inputs to provide new insights into my own work.
